Natural Sequence Farming

Natural Sequence Farming

"Windmill Downs is a most exciting project because it allows us to engineer an interface between the natural and the urban environment! This is a first for NSF."
Paul Newell - Peter Andrews project leader

Peter Andrews and his team have worked with the project engineers Geolyse Pty Ltd to engineer a stormwater management design that not only manages surface flows under a major rain event but also reduces water energy in the stream.

This reduces erosion, builds soil and nutrient levels, re-hydrates the landscape and increases biodiversity. All the ingredients for a repaired landscape in a way that nature intended.

Peter's great ability is being able to read a landscape and restore it to its natural state. This he has designed at Windmill Downs using all the devices and tools detailed in his recent book "Back from the Brink".

Leaky weirs, overflow ridges, water moving against water, de-energisation and biodiversity are all features that have been incorporated into the Windmill Downs water strategy.

Peter has no doubt that his work will greatly enhance the landscape and the biodiversity at Windmill Downs, which in turn translates into a superior living environment for the residents.
